Kyushu Part 1: Fukuoka

We recently returned from a vacation in Kyushu - the southern island of Japan. It was Golden Week in Japan, a big national holiday, and we managed to have about 8 days off work. We first flew into Fukuoka, the 6th biggest city in Japan. It was a great place! Everybody was friendly and I'd love to go back. We spent our first full day visiting a tiny island just off the coast of the city (and as we just missed the hourly ferry we arrived by speed boat ;)).

Nokonoshima, a beautiful small island. I love how you can see the beautiful sea and mountains, but also the city skyline in the background. The main thing to do is visit a garden park, but we spent a long time walking around and enjoying the beautiful nature of the island itself. The weather was fantastic too!

We arrived to the park super thirsty, so tried these amazing drinks that are made on the island. おいしかったです。おいしかったです。
And posed in front of various beautifully arranged flowers.

Oh, and swung on old fashioned swings that were tied to bamboo...

And fed about a million bunnies!

It was really relaxing, even though we probably walked about 500 miles. I love just being by the sea.

After heading back to the city Jonny made a new friend - Doraemon! He's a famous cartoon character in Japan and for some reason there are about 20 statues of him right outside the main train station in Fukuoka. Super cute.

We spent the evening walking around the city and taking everything in... I will post more about our trip shortly!
