Kyushu - final part: Nagasaki

Our final destination was Nagasaki. I was looking forward to visiting the peace park and museums, and just seeing what the city felt like after such tragedy. There is a cool vibe in Nagasaki: everybody seems like they are friendly and want to have a good time. But, it's not as glamourous and exciting as the guide books make it out to be. The bridge above feels like something in Europe!

Above; the statue at the Peace Park.
Below; ruins from the A-Bomb.

This monument marks the spot the bomb hit. It was really moving to visit the spot and think of all the destruction that occurred.

This is a clock in the museum. It was found in a house nearby the explosion, and it had stopped at the time the bomb fell: 11:02. Quite a moving image.

I'm glad we visited Nagasaki. I think it's somewhere everybody in Japan should visit in order to remember the atrocities. I don't really understand how anyone can think possession of nuclear weapons is a good thing after seeing the devastation it can cause...

Nagasaki is also famous for having a great night-view spot (something Japan seems to love!). So, we took the ropeway up a mountain to watch the sunset. It was beautiful.

A great holiday! I love Kyushu. Now I'm looking forward to our next trip...
