Ise Grand Shrine

Together with our friend Arisa, we visited Ise Shrine. We had been told that we must visit this spiritual place before we leave Japan as it is one of the most important shrines in Japan.

Unfortunately we weren't allowed to take pictures everywhere - because gods are claimed to be in certain areas - but the architecture was beautiful. It is one of the only shrines built in a truly 'Japanese' style, with no influence from other Asian cultures.

Part of why it was so beautiful was the huge nature! And, spring finally decided to come to Japan. The weather was great as we strolled around the complex.

There is also a great street with restaurants, souvenirs and street food vendors. We decided to eat wagyu 和牛 for lunch, local Japanese beef. Jonny was very happy...

This was the very cool looking restaurant we ate at. Not cheap, but very tasty.

After lunch, Jonny and Arisa tried some local beer...

While I was very happy to eat my tofu soft-cream and tofu donut. Sounds strange, but it was great!

Afterwards, we continued eating! We visited a famous shop to sample some speciality mochi that was covered in red bean paste. Again, sounds strange, but sooooo yummy.

After we finally finished eating everything, we strolled to the other shrine complex. Once again, we enjoyed the nature.

We had some time left in the day, and some free bus tickets to use, so we headed to these famous rocks in the sea, Meoto Iwa.

The weather quickly changed, and to be honest, we couldn't understand why it was a big tourist attraction. The rocks were very small. Jonny was not impressed.

But, we got to take this cute photo! The rocks are supposed to symbolise marriage so it is a nice spot for couples. But, maybe it's only worth popping by if you are in the area!

A great day!
