沖縄: Some sightseeing!

We managed to drag ourselves away from relaxing at the beach or the hotel to do a little bit of sightseeing. We visited the very famous aquarium, Churaumi, and also Shuri Castle.

The aquarium was great! Full of lots of cute tropical fish, and some more scary looking ones... But the main highlight is the huge tank which contains three massive whalesharks!

You can spot mine and mum's silhouettes in the last one! It really was worth the trip. We also saw a dolphin show whilst overlooking the sea.

We also visited Shuri Castle. Okinawa used to be home to the Ryukyu Kingdom, it was not orignally part of Japan, and is therefore very different to the castles we have seen in mainland Japan.

It looks like I'm casually walking through my castle.

You can't really see in this picture... but! We were very excited to be given a 2000 Yen note! We have never seen this before in Japan and it seems to be special to Okinawa. On this special note, the image is of this gate I am standing by. So I wanted to take a very geeky picture of me holding my note by the gate...

There's plenty to do in Okinawa - but, a car is vital.
