Late Night at Dotombori

Late night at the Dotonbori River is a pretty surreal experience. The first time we walked around the Shinsaibashi area and over the river was incredible and full of hustle and bustle - this is magnified when the sun goes down.

It's one of the main areas where people go to bars and clubs (and karaoke bars!) and it seems like it's full of people who want to be seen. Immaculate Japanese men and women with their perfectly coiffed hair seem to congregate on the bridge and drunken business men stumble past you.

Our night ended here, before our short walk home. And, our night began at Shakey's in Shinsaibashi... I think Shakey's is somewhat of a right of passage in Osaka. It is a miracle of a place that provides you with unlimited food and unlimited alcohol for 1500 yen - £9!! You get given a card stating the time when you walked in - and bam!, all you can eat and drink for the next hour. As a group of Westeners we really made the most of our money, yet all the Japanese diners seem happy to have a couple of slices of pizza and one beer. A cultural difference that I'm not particularly proud of...

Meet our new training group friends!
Julie, Amy, Jonny, Tashy, Tommy
And Chloe in the middle!

A lovely group of people that have made working here pretty easy.

If you're in town and fancy a lot to drink then Shakey's is a great place to begin!

A much less interesting and less cultural post but I thought it's better to write something than nothing at all. For my own memory too. Work is great but pretty exhausting at the moment so we don't have much time to explore - but soon I will post more pictures of trees or something! We all had a fantastic night together though!
