Taketomi Island

Four kilometres south of Ishigaki lies Taketomi Island. It is tiny and has a population of just 323 people! We took the 10 minute ferry over crazy huge waves to the small island, and spent the day exploring.

The small village is really quaint looking with stone walls and traditional looking homes. Above was the restaurant we ate at - Jonny had special Taketomi prawns!

Taketomi is known for its star sand beach. If you look hard enough in the sand, you can find grains that look like stars. As you can see from the pictures, the weather was terrible when we went! Incredibly cold and windy. So, we had a little look but with no success.

An island that must be stunning in the summer, when the emerald seas are still and not full of huge waves. A short post today - apologies!! - but I don't have too much to say!

  1. Interesting to see what a tropical island looks like in British style weather! And the prawns look yummy.
